Description: Like to learn lost wax glass casting? Whether you're an absolute beginner or an experienced enthusiast looking to refine your skills, this 5-day semiprivate workshop offers an immersive and tailored learning experience. Join Brenda on a creative journey where you and one other participant will delve deep into the fascinating world of lost wax glass casting. Personalised Learning Experience: This unique class is designed with your specific interests and goals in mind. Prior to the workshop, you'll have a 30-minute Zoom consultation with Brenda. During this session, you'll discuss your project ideas or the particular aspects of lost wax casting you're eager to explore. Brenda will use this information to customise the workshop curriculum to meet your individual needs. Workshop Highlights: Over the course of five intensive days, you'll have the opportunity to explore a wide range of topics related to lost wax glass casting, including: Types of Waxes: Discover the various types of waxes commonly used and learn about their unique advantages and disadvantages. Sculpting Wax: Gain hands-on experience in sculpting wax and discover the essential tools for this process. Refractory Mould Making: Learn how to make durable refractory moulds. Steaming Wax: Learn how to prepare and treat wax for the casting process, ensuring optimal results. Glass Selection: Understand the art of choosing the right type of glass for your projects and how different glasses behave in the casting process. Glass Displacement: Accurately calculating glass volume. Kiln Operation: Get hands-on experience in loading and firing a kiln, including mastering firing schedules to achieve desired results. Advanced Topics: Depending on your interests and progress, the workshop may also cover advanced areas such as master mould making with silicon rubber and cold working. Materials and Inclusions: All refractories and firing materials are included in the workshop fee. However, please note that the cost of glass and silicon rubbers is an additional expense, this cost is relative to the project/s you make. Tailored Learning, Limited Time: While Brenda is committed to providing comprehensive instruction, it's important to recognise that a week is relatively short in the realm of glass casting. Some projects may require more time and expertise. If you have a complex project in mind, we encourage you to email Brenda before signing up to discuss the feasibility and requirements.
Cancellation Policy
If the studio cancels: We reserve the right to cancel any scheduled course. Whenever possible, cancellations are made at least one week prior to the beginning of class. All classes are subject to sufficient enrolment and in the unlikely event that we cancel a class due to low enrolment, those who have enrolled will receive a full refund. If a class is cancelled, the studio is not responsible for reimbursing travel costs or other associated expenses. If you cancel or transfer: Students cancelling more than 10 days before the workshops starts will forfeit 50% of the class fees. Cancellations made fewer than ten days prior to commencement of class will forfeit all payments made. Transferring to another class will incur a $50 administration fee. Transferring to another class needs to be done prior to 10 days before the class commences. Transfers are not offered within 10 days of a class staring and all payments made will be forfeited.
