Brenda Page
Artist
Brenda Page is an Australian glass artist living and working on Wurundjeri country in the Dandenong Ranges, on the outskirts of Melbourne. Her practice sits at the intersection of sculptural glass and printmaking, integrating screen-printed imagery with cast and kiln-formed glass to create works that are as much about mark-making and surface as they are about form.
Page was introduced to glass while studying Fine Art at RMIT, before transferring to Monash University where she graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Ceramic Design, majoring in Glass. Initially drawn to the immediacy of the hot glass studio, she shifted her focus to kiln-forming processes, finding in them a closer relationship between hand and material, a quality central to her artistic concerns.
At the heart of her work is a meditation on existence and loss. Drawing on the Victorian memento mori tradition, Page explores themes of mourning and the ephemeral through a layered visual language that spans sculpture, two-dimensional work, and installation. She works fluidly across cast, fused, and blown glass, using these forms as substrates for painted and screen-printed imagery, and occasionally incorporating unconventional materials such as found objects and human hair to deepen the narrative.
Page has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally, with solo exhibitions at Craft Victoria, the National Glass Centre (Wagga Wagga), and Gabriel Gallery. Her work has been recognised through several significant awards and prizes, including the Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Award for Sculpture, the Yering Station Sculpture Award, and selection for both the Tom Malone Prize, Deakin Small Sculpture and the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize. Her work is held in collections in Australia and internationally.
In 2003, Page founded Blue Dog Glass, an open-access studio that has become an important hub for the Australian glass community, hosting international artists, running workshops and masterclasses, and supporting emerging and established practitioners alike. In 2025, she was awarded Ausglass Lifetime Membership in recognition of her sustained and significant contribution to Australian glass art.
